'Out with the old and in with the new' has never been my thing. I have always loved working with old clothing and scrap material. While studying fashion design at Syracuse, I came up with the idea to use men's ties in my designs, and a project for an entrepreneurship class prompted me to start experimenting. I bought 150 ties at a vintage shop in Antwerp, and RooeyKnots was born.
I moved to China after college to explore a different side of the world and be closer to my entrepreneurial brother. After selling Rooey products in China for a couple of years, I decided it was time to pursue my business back in the U.S.
They say timing is everything, and it was lucky for me that my good friend from high school, Caitlin was in transition when I moved home from China. Caitlin had developed quite a following on her fashion and decor blog, Pattern Me Pretty and was excited about joining me as a business partner and taking Rooey Knots to the next level.
At Rooey Knots we celebrate individual style. No two customers are alike - nor are any two Rooey accessories (or the ties we make them with, for that matter). We think Dr. Seuss put it best: “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter.”
